In many companies, a large amount of corporate data is generated on a daily basis, usually from different sources. It is necessary to collect, store and manage this (un)structured data in order to be able to make decisions based on trustworthy data. For this to be possible in a data warehouse, it needs a functional data integration solution. For years, Stadtwerke Norderstedt has relied on Talend Data Integration Suite to integrate the data of its subsidiary wilhelm.tel GmbH as part of a whitelabel OEM software.

Talend offers a highly scalable architecture for almost any application or data source and is used at the municipal utility as the basis for data management for many applications in numerous business areas. After six years, the software house from which the OEM solution originated terminated the maintenance contract at the end of 2021, which also meant the end of the primary support path. The municipal utilities were now faced with the challenge of migrating the existing Talend solution to their own system environment.

Using an OEM solution always involves the risk of using functions that were implemented by the software house and are not part of the original solution. Thus, before the migration, an in-depth consideration of the initial situation was necessary. This included recording the individual data integration processes of the existing solution and its infrastructure. This resulted in a risk assessment, not only to identify and take into account potential enhancements, but above all to prevent the loss of data or process structures. No individualizations were identified as part of this.

Stadtwerke Norderstedt now has an up-to-date subscription license in its system environment, obtained directly from TIMETOACT as a Talend partner. This means that in the future they will no longer be tied to an OEM solution and will therefore be independent of the software house. The structured project approach of the TIMETOACT experts not only enabled a smooth and secure migration, but also brought the project to a quick conclusion as desired.

Individual adaptations, extensions and customizing can be implemented easily and quickly on request so that the municipal utility can benefit from Talend beyond the standard functions. TIMETOACT continues to be available to the Stadtwerke as a support partner as needed.
