Heckmann: CORE, the modern intranet for a fast start

Heckmann launches quickly, cost-efficiently, and scalably with the CORE intranet package

With the SharePoint CORE package, Heckmann implemented a modern intranet – centralized, mobile-ready, and immediately usable. The standardized solution based on SharePoint Online enables a fast and cost-efficient start and can be flexibly expanded. This creates a communication platform that connects both office staff and on-site construction teams.

The modern Intranet CORE Paket

The Heckmann Group, a traditional construction company in North Rhine-Westphalia, faced an important transformation. A modern intranet was to be introduced to provide information centrally – for office employees as well as staff on construction sites. Until then, there was no central communication platform; information was shared decentrally and often only reached individual group companies. This was particularly challenging for blue-collar employees without laptops or company smartphones. The goal was therefore to create a central, mobile-accessible platform that increases transparency and ensures company-wide information flow.

In close coordination with novaCapta, Heckmann chose the CORE SharePoint Intranet as its entry point. The preconfigured standard, with defined structures and formats based on SharePoint Online, enabled a fast launch without lengthy conceptual phases – while still allowing flexible and easy expansion as requirements grow.

Ready to Launch Quickly with the CORE SharePoint Intranet

The project was implemented in close collaboration with the core project team. Within around four weeks, the new intranet went live, including the homepage and departmental pages. Thanks to the clear standard, only a few decisions were required, significantly accelerating the process. From the outset, the most important departments were involved and appropriate structures were established. In addition, small customizations such as two separate news sections and a weather widget for construction site employees were integrated.

A particular focus was placed on enabling employees: In hands-on training sessions for power users, editors from the involved departments were guided step by step in working with the system. Instead of theoretical instruction, the focus was on practical exercises and interaction – with great success. Initial hesitations were reduced, and participants gained confidence in using the new tool. They are now able to independently publish content, while approval workflows ensure a centralized overview of internal communication.

Added Value and Future Perspective of a Central Communication Platform

The CORE package convinced Heckmann in several ways: With short implementation times, lean costs, and a clear standard, the intranet was quickly integrated into everyday operations. All employees now benefit from a central information source with access to relevant tools and services (e.g. Jobrouter for sick leave notifications), which is mobile-accessible and also enables easy access for construction site staff. Initial feedback shows that employees feel better informed and gain greater visibility into projects across different locations and companies.

From an organizational perspective, the intranet also offers clear advantages. Heckmann can independently create new pages and content at any time without relying on external service providers. This keeps the system lean and close to daily practice. At the same time, the CORE package provides room for growth. With novaCapta, Heckmann has not only achieved a fast start, but also laid the foundation for a long-term, scalable communication platform.
